Moving Towards Your Potential
The Feldenkrais Method® is a revolutionary approach for bolstering creativity, improving movement, and recovering from injury by harnessing the power of neuroplasticity. Based on the nervous system’s inherent ability to reorganize itself, physicist Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais spent over 40 years developing and refining his method.
The Feldenkrais Method focuses on the inter-relationship between your brain and your body. Gentle movements are done with focused attention, activating and reorganizing your nervous system for surprising results. Physical improvements are accompanied by stress reduction, mental clarity and heightened creativity.
Everyone’s nervous system has the ability to continually learn and improve throughout our lifetime. I work with professional athletes, designers, musicians, artists, and also folks who are recovering from injury…… or who are simply looking to reach their potential. To paraphrase Moshe Feldenkrais, “The only thing fixed about ourselves is the belief that it is so.”
So What is Feldenkrais?
The Feldenkrais Method is a system of noticing how you do things and exploring alternative ways of doing them. The lessons use gentle, novel movements done with focused attention, to create new neurological connections. By exploring new patterns of thought and movement, you begin to adapt and reorganize more efficiently, allowing you to do things with greater ease, efficiency and pleasure. It is a subtle, yet powerful method of self-discovery.
Feldenkrais lessons are offered in two modes:
- In Awareness Through Movement® classes, you are verbally guided through a movement sequence designed to develop mental and physical awareness. These lessons typically occur in a group setting.
- Functional Integration® lessons are one-on-one and focus on your individual needs. You are guided through movements using gentle touch. Lessons are conducted fully clothed and last 45 – 60 minutes.
Regardless of the learning style you choose, the Feldenkrais Method can help you overcome limitations brought on by stress, misuse, accident, or simply from old habits that are no longer serving you.
